Clearance rules printed in manufacturer manuals
| Oven | Clearance to walls/combustibles | Other rules in the manual |
|---|---|---|
| Ooni Koda 12 / Koda 16 (gas) | 24 in at sides, 36 in at back | Not under overhead combustible construction; not on or under an apartment or condo balcony; keep the propane tank at least 40 in away (Koda 16 manual) |
| Ooni Karu 16 (gas burner) | 24 in at sides, 36 in at back | Same rules as the Koda; tank at least 40 in away; at least 3.5 in from each leg to the table edge |
| Ooni Karu 12 / Fyra 12 (wood, pellet) | No number published | Outdoors only, away from structures; watch for decking and dry leaves near sparks |
| Ooni Volt 12 (electric) | No number published | Clean, flat surface clear of flammables including tablecloths; outdoor extension cords must be rated 'W' |
| Gozney Roccbox (gas) | 60 in from any structure, combustible, or other gas cylinder | Never in enclosed areas; 25 ft from flammable liquids |
| Gozney Dome (US manual, wood) | 12 in at back and sides, 40 in at front; 14 in above | Also a general warning to stay 5 ft from any structure; never under or on a combustible structure |
| Gozney Arc / Arc XL (gas) | About 12 in at back and sides, about 39 in at front | 2 in of air space around the base; general warning to stay about 5 ft from structures |
| Solo Stove Pi Prime (propane) | 36 in from sides and back to a wall | No overhead construction; propane cylinder at least 12 in from the oven |
| Blackstone Patio Oven (1575) | 36 in from any combustible construction | No overhead combustible surfaces; outdoor use only |
| Camp Chef Italia Artisan | 12 in at sides, front, and back | Same manual also says 10 ft from any structure; no overhead construction |
Taken from manufacturer manuals (US/CSA versions where available) and published as printed. EU and Australian manuals differ: Ooni's EU manuals add a 0.5 m wall distance, and Gozney's AU/NZ manual has its own enclosure rules. Always follow the manual that came with your oven.

When the Manuals Disagree
Several manuals contradict themselves. Gozney lists 12 inches for the Dome but also warns to stay 5 feet from any structure. Ooni gives 24 and 36 inches but also quotes a 10 foot distance from structures. Camp Chef prints 12 inches and 10 feet in the same document. The Koda 16 label even says 36 inches at the front.
The safe approach is to use the larger number. A 3 to 5 foot gap from walls and rails, and 10 feet from anything that burns easily, covers every manual above. Dad's rule: when two numbers fight, the bigger one wins, and the pizza tastes the same either way.
Overhead, Garages, and Balconies
Every brand above says the same three things: not under overhead construction, not in a garage, and not in any enclosed space. A covered patio counts as overhead construction for several of these manuals.
Ooni's gas manuals also say not to use the oven on or under any apartment or condominium balcony or deck, and Camp Chef advises ground-floor use with 10 feet of clearance from walls or rails. If you live in an apartment, our apartment and balcony guide covers the electric options.
What the Oven Sits On
Ooni's Koda 12 guide asks for an outdoor table at least 18 by 32 inches, with at least 6 inches from the back leg to the edge, sturdy enough for more than 30 pounds. It says wood, metal, or stone is fine and glass or plastic is not recommended. Gozney lists 130 pounds for the Dome in the US manual and 20 kg and 25 kg for the Arc and Arc XL (about 44 and 55 pounds, converted).
The Roccbox and Blackstone manuals we checked publish no table or weight requirement. Whatever the oven weighs, the surface must be level and non-flammable. No manufacturer specifically addresses composite decking, so keep the oven on a stone, metal, or concrete surface rather than relying on a deck.
